The England Band are joining the Rugby League World Cup and coming to Doncaster in 2022

The Band will be at all three fixtures hosted at the Eco-Power Stadium to add to the carnival atmosphere expected in South Yorkshire.

The Rugby League World Cup bid team, who initially brought the competition to the borough, have worked hard to secure their services ahead of the competition getting underway in October.

The band formed in 1993 and three years later were selected to play for the England senior international football team. They have followed them all over the world ever since.

They have travelled to more than 65 countries in the past 25 years, and have experience of playing at the Eco-Power already having been in attendance when England’s Lionesses beat Latvia Women 20-0 in November.

On securing their services, Doncaster RLFC chief executive Carl Hall said: “This is massive news for us. The band made the event so special when they were here for the Lionesses fixture.

“We want this to be more than rugby league games coming to Doncaster, we want people to remember it as a world-class event for years to come.

“The band really get you off your seat and engage the crowd. We’ve done a lot of work within schools to get people coming along to the games, and this is the next step in making it as special as we can.

“Here in Doncaster we want to do something different and in that we’re thinking outside of the box in terms of how we make it a fantastic experience for everyone.”
