Upgrades to Doncaster Dome have taken place over the past 18 months, allowing for vital regenerative repairs and improvements to take place as part of a funding package of over £15m. This included refurbishments to The Lagoons, the Dome's entrance, roof and wider building works with regard to heating and decoration.

Booking is now open for leisure swimming in the refurbished lagoons which include pool, flume and changing area.
Major works have also taken place to replace the glazing on the roof, redesign the entrance area, and replace the mechanical system which heats and cleans the water and air in the swimming pool area.
All the works were vital to meet the Grade II listing of the Dome, an award which was given to the facility in 2023.
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Public Health, Cllr James Church, said: “Visitors to the Dome may already have seen some of the works that have taken place, but from 22 May access to all the facilities will once again be available. This means that visitors will be able to see all the refurbishment undertaken, giving the Dome a fresh, exciting, modern feel to it, with a nod to the past in respect of the heritage listing – and of course, making the swimming area even more fun!
“This project continues the council’s investment into leisure facilities across Doncaster, from Thorne to Edlington, a vital piece of work that will make staying healthy even more accessible for residents right across the city.”
Andrew Burden, Chair of Trustees of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming people back to The Lagoons. We know how much they have been missed and how much our customers enjoy having swimming available at the Dome.
“The Lagoons, flume and changing areas have all been refurbished and visitors will see a noticeable difference in these areas.
“A lot of works that have taken place are behind the scenes in the systems that make the environment welcoming and enjoyable, while these are not visible, they will enhance our visitor experience.
“We are pleased to work with partners who recognise the tangible benefits of investing in health for the local community and our team are ready to open the doors later this month for leisure swimmers, school groups, swim lessons and parties.”
