With less than three weeks to go until Pride of Yorkshire hits the streets, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity has revealed the locations for its 150 lion sculptures across South Yorkshire.
Pride of Yorkshire
From city centres and shopping destinations to parks, landmarks and cultural spaces, the region will be transformed into a free, open-air art trail this summer, celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
The lions will be installed across Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley, creating a trail that invites families, residents and visitors to explore the region in a completely new way.
In Sheffield, locations will include major destinations such as Meadowhall, Sheffield City Hall and Fargate, alongside green spaces including the Botanical Gardens and Weston Park.
In Doncaster, lions will appear at Doncaster Racecourse, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster Dome and Frenchgate.
In Barnsley, the Pride will span historic and cultural landmarks including Elsecar Heritage Centre and Monk Bretton Priory, as well as destinations such as the Glass Works and Oakwell Stadium. The trail will also extend into Penistone, Wombwell and Hoyland.
In Rotherham, visitors to Gulliver’s Valley, Magna Science Adventure Centre and Wentworth Woodhouse, will get to see our incredible sculptures up close.
John Armstrong, Chief Executive of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, said:
“Pride of Yorkshire is a celebration of 150 years of Sheffield Children’s and everything the hospital means to children and families across this region and beyond.
This summer, the lions will bring colour, creativity and joy to communities right across South Yorkshire, while helping to raise vital funds for the next chapter in the hospital’s story. We’re absolutely delighted to be extending the trail into Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster, as well as Sheffield, because it reflects the reality that Sheffield Children’s belongs to all of us.
Every day, families from across South Yorkshire rely on the extraordinary care provided by the hospital, and we hope the trail inspires people to get out, explore, have fun together and feel proud of something truly special happening on their doorstep.”
Pride of Yorkshire
The Pride of Yorkshire trail follows the success of Bears of Sheffield and Herd of Sheffield, and aims to raise £2.8million towards a £20m transformation of Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Department. The redevelopment will help create a calmer, more child-friendly space for patients and families.
Alongside the 150 large sculptures, a further 150 Little Pride lion cubs, designed by schools and community groups, will also feature as part of the trail.
