Aladdin and his magic carpet have flown into Doncaster after the much-loved pantomime made a triumphant return at Cast.

The festive tradition got underway as the weekend with families welcomed to the opening performances of the classic musical tale.

Guests are taken on a dazzling magic carpet ride full of adventure, comical moments, mischief and mayhem in this fully BSL integrated family show which will run until Friday 31 December.

The pantomime tells the story of Aladdin falling in love with Princess Jasmine and meeting the mysterious genie of the lamp - all the while trying to save the world from the cunning sorcerer.

With striking sets, dastardly plots and a spectacular cast, this Deaf-friendly pantomime is a hit for all the family this Christmas. It comes as a welcome festive celebration for theatre fans after the pandemic caused last year’s panto performance to be cancelled.

Deborah Rees, director at Cast, said: “We were thrilled to open our Aladdin pantomime at the weekend, and it felt so special to welcome people back to this festive highlight. Guests had a great time and enjoyed the vibrant show and audience participation of this cherished Christmas tradition.

“Aladdin is a big family favourite, and we can’t wait to welcome audiences to our performances up until the New Year. We have an excellent cast and the panto is filled with laughs and all the fun of the theatre – it’s the perfect way to get into the festive spirit.”

There will be relaxed/accessible performances on 2 December at 10am for schools or 28 December at 6pm for the public. Cast will also hold a socially distanced performance of Aladdin on 12 December at 6pm. A captioned and audio described performance will take place on Saturday 4 December at 3pm.
