Racing Towards Recognition: “St Leger Superstars” Rewarded with A VIP Day At The Races
Winners of the “St Leger Superstars” competition in partnership with former Team GB medalist and Doncaster local, Sarah Stevenson MBE, have been announced.
All four finalists deemed worthy of the VIP race day experience will attend as guests of honour.
With a little over a week to go until the highly anticipated Betfred St Leger Festival, votes have been rolling in to crown the winners of the “St Leger Superstars” competition.
The competition was initially launched in partnership with former Team GB bronze medal winner and Doncaster local, Sarah Stevenson MBE in search of local community heroes that have gone above and beyond. The aim being to reward them with a cherished VIP day out at the iconic Betfred St Leger Festival.
A judging panel consisting of Sarah, the Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones, and Executive Director of Doncaster Racecourse, Rachel Harwood whittled all entries down to just four finalists for friends, family and the general public to vote for.
Voting closed on Sunday 1st September and it can now be revealed that all four finalists will be receiving an unforgettable VIP race day experience. The “St Leger Superstars” that will be in attendance are:

- Mandy Burns
- Dale Roberts
After a total of 655 votes flooded in, each nomination was closely contested and equally inspiring, making all nominees worthy of a special day that will live long in their memories.
The winners will attend as guests of honour on Friday 13th September and watch the live action of The Betfred Doncaster Cup Day unfold from the comfort of a private hospitality suite alongside Team GB’s Sarah Stevenson. They will also be able to enjoy a three-course meal, drinks reception, as well as entry to the Parade Ring before, during and after races, where they will be interviewed by a Doncaster Racecourse representative.
Sarah Stevenson MBE said: “Being a part of this campaign has filled me with nothing but pride and made me proud to be from such a unique city.
Reading all the entries has reminded me of how wonderful this city is, and I hope that each winner has a day as special as them because they deserve it.”
Rachel Harwood Executive Director at Doncaster Racecourse said: “This competition has been a reminder of just how many local heroes exist within our communities. Some of their heartwarming actions may go unnoticed but it has been wonderful to be able to acknowledge them.
Giving each entry the opportunity to have a VIP day at the races is an invaluable feeling as they all deserved to win the reward. We can’t wait to give them a warm welcome to the Betfred St Leger festival.”
