Fine dining in Doncaster: This city restaurant offers European dishes

A warm friendly welcome awaits diners at The City Restaurant in Doncaster – with a new vibe and a new menu which will especially appeal to those who love meat and fish

Having operated for several years as a bar and grill, The City Restaurant now offers fine dining for up to 50 guests with a menu of mouth-watering contemporary European dishes in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

It is an independent restaurant run by two friends – one of whom is the chef. A relaxed experience and family-friendly dining are at the heart of what they offer – with just one rule – there are no customers here, just guests, who will be treated as if they are family and friends.

Indeed the restaurant has many repeat guests and is popular choice for people wanting to celebrate a special occasion – you can even bring the family dog along!

It is conveniently located at the Waterdale Centre in the heart of the city’s modernised Civic Quarter, just a five minute walk from the train station and a two-minute walk from the Cast Theatre and Savoy Cinema.

What’s on the menu?

Diners will be spoiled for choice with a range of dishes combining quality meats and fish with tasty sauces and contemporary flourishes.

Its speciality though, is the game dishes, such as Wild Scottish venison T-bone with green asparagus; wild boar tenderloin served with pork bacon and apple; Guinea fowl supreme with cranberry sauce or Gressingham duck breast with apple and bison-grass vodka jus.

There are meaty dishes packed with flavour such as Beef Goulash – silverside of beef with baby chestnut mushrooms, Parmesan shavings, onion and garlic served with potato pancakes or Cabbage stew with pork – cured meat and sausage chunks, acacia honey, French Agen prunes, baby chestnut mushrooms, herbs and merlot.

From the sea you’ll find fish such as Wild Norwegian cod loin with baby plum tomatoes, rosemary, garlic and Chardonnay jus or Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon with herbs and lemongrass jus.

And if you’re a vegetarian you won’t be disappointed either. You could be tucking into Green asparagus, creamy Blue Stilton sauce served with potato pancakes; soft Welsh goats cheese filled crepe served with acacia honey, crushed almonds and baby spinach leaves; or a creamy baby spinach tagliatelle pasta.

The City restaurant serves many dishes for people with a gluten-free diet.

As well as these mouth-watering main courses there is also a wide range of sumptuous starters and delicious desserts as well as a kids menu for the younger diners.

Classic cocktails

As well as a wide range of drinks, and spirits the City bar also serves a number of cocktails, including some classic favourites. And if you order three, you can get a fourth free. Wine-lovers are in for a treat too as the restaurant offers a selection of house wines from the South of France.
