Doncaster is set to shine brighter than ever as the Right Up Our Street Festival of Light returns. This year, artist Refik Anadol presents an unprecedented fusion of art and science in his exhibition 'Machine Hallucinations: Large Nature Model'

Why You Can’t Miss the Festival of Light

Hosted at the iconic Doncaster Minster, the Festival of Light is a free, family-friendly event that brings together stunning light installation and interactive art. Each year, the festival showcases the work of renowned artists and local talent, creating a truly unique experience for all ages .This years creator is Refik Anadol, a media artist and designer renowned for his groundbreaking work in data-driven, ethically sourced, AI-powered immersive installations that transform vast datasets into mesmerising visual and sensory experiences.

The Festival of Light is the perfect excuse to make the most of Doncaster’s vibrant city centre. Here’s how to turn your visit into a full evening out:

1. Daytime bookers... Why not arrive early and explore...

  • Doncaster Market: Pick up local treats, browse unique gifts, and soak up the lively atmosphere 
  • Shop Local: Take a stroll around the Corn Exchange, Frenchgate, and the bustling High Street for some early christmas shopping!

2. Get a bite to eat...

Doncaster’s food scene is bursting with flavour! Why not book a table at one of these city centre favourites after your festival visit?

  • La Boca Steakhouse: For mouth-watering steaks and a warm Yorkshire welcome

3. Keep an eye out for other events...

  • Christmas Light Switch On: The city centre will be buzzing with light displays, music, fireworks and pop-up performances on the 15th November. Don’t forget to snap some photos!
  • Doncaster's Sculpture Trail: Collect a trail map from the Tourist Information Centre and join the highly anticipated Trail around the City Centre
  • Winter Illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park: Join the excitement from the 15th November on the most magical winter lantern trail which will run until the end of January

Plan your visit

  • Dates & Times: The Festival of Light runs for 10 days, with daytime and evening sessions at Doncaster Minster. Tickets are free for Doncaster residents and £5 for visitors outside of Doncaster. This must be booked in advance in half-hour slots. Donations are welcome to support this community-led event 
  • Accessibility: The festival is designed to be accessible for all, with BSL-interpreted sessions and accessible facilities at the Minster
  • Getting Here: Doncaster Minster is just a short walk from the train station and city centre car parks, making it easy to combine your visit with shopping, dining, and exploring
