Doncaster Deaf Trust aims for £10k for 10k!
A determined team are running the Doncaster 10k later this month in the hope of making a massive difference to a much-loved local charity.
28 runners are getting on their running shoes to raise as much money as possible for Doncaster Deaf Trust at the 10k race taking place on Sunday 27 November. Along with a group of students who will be completing their own 10k by walking, jogging or running on 25 November, the combined team is aiming to raise £10k to be used for projects across the organisation.
The Trust specialises in education for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or have speech, language and communication difficulties including Autism. It is made up of Little Learners Day Nursery, Doncaster School for the Deaf, Communication Specialist College Doncaster, Aspire to Be (Specialist Employability Support) and a Children’s Home (Dickson House), providing education for people from all over the UK at its site on Leger Way.
The team running the 10k for the Deaf Trust comprises of Chloe Jones, an early year’s team supervisor at Little Learners Day Nursery, and her partner Alex Tayne who are raising funds for outdoor play equipment at the nursery.
A group of staff and students from Communication Specialist College Doncaster, along with a team from corporate supporters Lyndon Systems and Tunstall UK, are all fundraising for a new wellbeing garden at the college. And a team from Aspire to Be are raising funds to go towards creating a hospitality work simulation area.
Other members of the Trust are also taking part with their contributions being split across all projects.
In addition, the Trust has provided the event organiser, Curly’s Athletes, with videos of signs and posters to help make the event as inclusive as possible for all deaf staff and runner who are taking part.
Becca Lynch, corporate and community fundraiser at Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We are so pleased we have so many people from across the trust, as well as external supporters, joining forces to try and raise £10k for 10k this year! It’s an ambitious target but we are hopeful we can reach it as we look to support all the incredible projects that are taking place at Doncaster Deaf Trust.
“Every penny raised will help the work we do to support our young people and we just want to say a huge thank you to all those taking part for us and wish them all the very best for the day. We’ll be cheering them all on!”
