Aladdin’s magic carpet flies into Cast this Christmas

The much-loved pantomime Aladdin is flying into Doncaster this Christmas with accessible, socially distanced performances at Cast.

To ensure as many families as possible can enjoy the dazzling magic carpet pantomime, two socially distanced performances will run on Saturday 27 November at 7pm and on Sunday 12 December at 6pm. Relaxed performances will also take place on Thursday 2 December at 10am (for schools) and on Tuesday 28 December at 6pm.

The classic musical tale of Aladdin sees him fall in love with Princess Jasmine and meet the mysterious genie of the lamp - all the while trying to save the world from the cunning sorcerer.

Accessible performances at Cast are designed and adapted for people who may find a traditional theatre performance setting challenging, so they provide a more relaxed space for those with a disability or complex needs.

Various accessible performances are available at Cast, such as captioned and audio described, relaxed and socially distanced. A relaxed performance will have the lights up so that it doesn’t get too dark and there is space to move around. An open door policy is also included, with low volume and no loud bangs or flashes of light. Access booths are also available where audience members can watch the performance but in a private environment.

Deborah Rees, director at Cast Theatre, said: “Aladdin is a pantomime that is always a firm family favourite, full of laughter, sparkle and all the fun of the theatre. We are passionate about enabling everybody to enjoy theatre entertainment and with these accessible, socially distanced performances, we feel confident that all guests can feel comfortable in our auditorium.

“We’re really excited to welcome all families to this vibrant show and share the festive spirit that we missed out on last year.”

A captioned and audio described performance will also take place on Saturday 4 December at 3pm and Cast’s pantomime will be fully BSL integrated.
