The Minster Church of Saint George is Grade 1 listed. The present church was built to the designs of George Gilbert Scott between 1854 -1858 after the mediaeval church was destroyed by fire in 1853. Amongst its treasures are a clock by Dent and a spectacular five manual organ by the renowned German organ builder Edmund Schulze.
Tower Tours, which will take you up 158 steps to the ringing chamber in the Central Tower. Only available to people who are wearing sensible shoes and have a reasonable level of fitness. All children should be accompanied by an adult and the tour is unsuitable for children under 8 years.
