Flying Scotsman Memories Session

Flying Scotsman Memories Session
  • Venue/Location:Danum Gallery, Library and Museum
  • Date: 30 Jun 22 - 2 Jul 22

Calling all Flying Scotsman fans!

In 2023, Doncaster’s most famous export, the locomotive Flying Scotsman, will celebrate 100 years since it was built at the Plant Works in Hexthorpe.

From taking pride of place at the British Empire exhibition in 1924, to becoming the first locomotive to officially achieve a speed of 100mph, Flying Scotsman was the obvious choice to be selected for preservation when it was withdrawn from service in 1963.

The locomotive enjoyed a long and exciting career running special trains in preservation, and even went on tour to America in 1969. Today, the locomotive is owned by the National Railway Museum, and is gaining a new generation of fans as it continues to operate on the main line.

Now the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum would like to hear from you! What are your memories and stories of Flying Scotsman? What does the locomotive mean to you?

The Danum Gallery, Library and Museum would like to invite you to record your experiences of working on, travelling behind, or watching Flying Scotsman whizz past over the years. The stories we collect will form part of an online exhibition to kick start the celebrations of the centenary of the world’s most famous steam locomotive.

Join them on:

Thursday 30th June from 9:30am until 12:30pm

Saturday 2nd July from 10:00am until 1:00pm

Interviews will take place in the Rail Heritage gallery and the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum staff will welcome you at the rear gates of the building.
