Spending most of his life living in South Yorkshire, Ali always loved songwriting and the process of materialising random tunes and lyrics that would pop into his head throughout the day.
Utilising any recording gear he could get his hands on or joining local bands looking to play original material, the genres indulged were always a very eclectic mix but the joy of creating new music to record and perform always persisted.
During the solitary days of the pandemic, with no bands available to jam with and with just an acoustic guitar to perform the songs on, Ali developed his finger picking style in an attempt to fill in the bass lines, guitar solos and percussion that would otherwise be performed by a whole band.
The style gained traction and breathed new life into how his songs old and new could be played.
Once the open mics began firing up again, Ali was joined by his band mate from other full band projects, the harmony and percussion virtuoso - Dave-O Cunningham. The idea was to attempt the new playing techniques whilst performing the songs in the acoustic duo format.
The ventures were a success and the duo went from strength to strength and increased confidence with each performance.
The result is the Ali Sarbutt & Dave-O acoustic duo aiming to deliver great original finger style acoustic guitar based songs rich in vocal harmonies and hooks that will stay with you long after the final note of their performance has been played.
