The Upside Down: New work by Kate Sully

The Upside Down: New work by Kate Sully

  • Date: 9 Sep 23 - 6 Jan 24

Kate Sully’s new body of work began in early 2020 when she went on an eight-week residency at Fremantle Arts Centre in Australia. When Kate travelled to Australia, she took some digital images of the brain with her, once there she began assembling and collaging the images.

Talking about the creative process Kate said

‘Given the space and freedom to experiment, the work just poured out of me. I found the inspiration to develop a new language, which explored connections and disconnections around neuroscience and displacement’.

On her return to Sheffield Kate continued to develop the new work, while exploring research into the brain patterns of people living with dementia.

The result of Kate’s research can be seen in ‘The Upside Down’, a collection of colourful abstract paintings, which create new dialogues around the importance of creativity to brain health and wellbeing
