Originally the Chapel of the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene the building fell into disrepair in the mid-16th Century following the abolition of the Catholic Church by Henry VIII during the reformation. Rebuilt in 1839 for local patron Edward Harwood Greaves of nearby Hesley Hall, the chapel was acquired as a Masonic Hall in the early 1930s.
