Doncaster countdowns to Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Join us to mark Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee!

Queens Platinum Jubilee LogoDoncaster is set to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with an exciting programme of events and activities lined up over the coming months.

Beacon lighting, tree planting, a two day young people’s music and arts festival, exhibitions at local heritage buildings and as part of the Jubilee weekend (2-5 June), the town centre will host the Big Jubilee lunch on 5 June coinciding with the popular Delicious Doncaster Food Festival packed with lots of entertainment, attractions and food and drink galore!

Town Crier competition 

As part of the celebrations, a competition has also been launched to find Doncaster’s very own Town Crier, open to anyone over the age of 18. Applicants are invited to submit a short proclamation video (no longer than 30 seconds long) telling us why they would be great for the role. Submissions must be received by Friday 8 April and sent to the @DN1Events Facebook page inbox. Shortlisting will take place shortly afterwards and the top three entries will be put to the public vote online. 

Young people’s Music and Arts Festival, 27th-28th May

Doncaster Music Education Hub and Doncaster Cultural Education Partnership are working together to create a music and arts festival. This will take place on 27th and 28th May in Sir Nigel Gresley Square and also at CAST, The Point and Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.

Beacon Lighting, Thursday 2nd June

In the town centre, beacons will be lit at Sir Nigel Gresley Square from 7.30pm onwards.The Square will also host Jubilee Live with entertainment and a large screen to show television coverage of national events. At the official coordinated lighting of the beacons, a piper will play ‘Diu Regnare’ in celebration to the Queen.

 Delicious Doncaster Food & Drink Festival – The Platinum Edition, 2nd-5th June

This year’s Delicious Doncaster will be extended to include the Jubilee events and a wide variety of entertainment will be taking place over the weekend and throughout the town centre from the market to Gresley Square where there will be live music and food and drink galore.

The many activities and attractions include Doncaster Jubilee Bake Off competition (Thursday 2nd June). The cookery theatre will return throughout the four day festival with appearances from celebrity chefs including Ainsley Harriott (Friday 3rd June), Rustie Lee and Jonny Marsh (Saturday 4th June) and there will be over 30 food traders in addition to established market traders. 

The Big Jubilee Lunch, 5th June

The Big Jubilee Lunch will be held on Sunday 5th June with the opportunity to come together for a large town centre street party with traders supplying speciality foods for the day.

The Queen's Green Canopy, October

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee which invites people from across the country to plant a tree for the jubilee. Trees will be planted across the borough between October and March - watch this space for more detail! 

Community street parties

You may be planning on holding your own street party to mark the Jubilee. If you are, please contact the council when applying for a road closure. The deadline for this is Friday 6th May. You can find more detailed information about this on the following link:
