Following the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Saturday Doncaster Cazoo St Leger Day will be cancelled and instead take place on Sunday 11th.
Given the circumstances, Sunday's race will be a little different from normal. All racecourse racing from Sunday and over the mourning period will continue to mark Her Majesty's passing with tributes on-course. Flags will fly at half-mast, jockeys will wear black armbands while riding in each race and a period of silence will be observed prior to the opening race at each meeting.
Taking place over four-days, the famous Doncaster Cazoo St Leger festival features the final Classic of the revered British Flat racing season - the Group 1 Cazoo St Leger Stakes. Saturday’s Cazoo St Leger Day is one of the must-attend UK horse racing fixtures of the year.
What To Expect Along with witnessing history-in-the-making when the runners and rider enter the stalls to compete in the world’s oldest Classic Flat horse racing fixture, expect to experience a social occasion and atmosphere like nothing else.
This is THE pinnacle of Doncaster events to attend in 2022. The City flocks to experience all the drama and showmanship you’d expect from an event of this calibre and Doncaster’s streets are lined with flags and a festival-feel throughout the four-day Cazoo St Leger Festival.
But it’s not only the proud Yorkie’s that won’t want to miss any of the action – the eyes of the world will be on Doncaster Racecourse for this epic moment to the British Flat horse racing season.
The Most Prestigious Live Horse Racing
Bringing the four-day Cazoo St Leger festival to a dramatic climax, the Group 1 Cazoo St Leger Stakes attracts some of the leading trainers and horses from across the country.
Boasting a glittering roll of honour, which is littered with some of the most acclaimed horses in history, the race is the final leg of the esteemed British ‘Triple Crown’. Comprising of three British Classic races – the Newmarket 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and, finally, the St Leger, winning all three Group 1 horse racing fixtures is considered the greatest achievement in Thoroughbred horse racing and was last achieved by Nijinsky in 1970.
Hurricane Lane and William Buick were triumphant for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin in a dominant display to win the Cazoo St Leger Stakes in 2021. Who do will win the final classic of 2022?
Alongside the Cazoo St Leger Stakes, the final day of the Cazoo St Leger festival also features top-class horse races including the Champagne Stakes and the fast and furious, ultra-competitive sprint - the Portland Handicap.
We have a whole host of LIVE entertainment, to ensure all our guests attending the Cazoo St Leger Day have those feel-good vibes flowing throughout the entirety of this prestigious day!
A Brass Band will play a large variety of feel-good jazz music throughout the day, using myriads off different instruments to create the perfect sounds.
Post Racing Entertainment
The fun doesn't end at the finishing post! LIVE entertainment will continue after racing, with a DJ who will keep our guests dancing through their different blend of well-known tracks (Grandstand, County and Premier tickets all have access). If that's not enough, there will also be a decade 'explosion' of music, with a LIVE performance playing all the best hits from each decade (County and Premier ticket holders only).
