Upcoming eventsA celebration of Britain's most charismatic county!
It’s part memoir (Martin, the son of a railwayman, grew up in York in the 1970s), part overview of Yorkshire. Martin does not pretend to have all the answers to the questions he raises, such as 'Will Scarborough ever be posh again?' and 'Could you call Leeds beautiful?' A persistent theme is the quality of ‘Yorkshireness’ - what is it, and what are its prospects in a technological and globalised world? He discusses the way Doncaster has risen to this challenge.
Andrew Martin is an author of fiction and non-fiction. His novels include the award-winning Jim Stringer series of historical railway thrillers including Powder Smoke and Soot.
