Double Take: Connecting the Arts Council and Heritage Doncaster’s collections

Double Take: Connecting the Arts Council and Heritage Doncaster’s collections
  • Venue/Location:Danum Gallery, Library and Museum
  • Date: 22 Jan 22 - 17 Apr 22
  • Tickets:Free

‘Double Take’ features important artworks by artists including Henry Moore, Eduardo Paolozzi, Gwen John and Maggi Hambling, many of them on loan from the Arts Council Collection. The loaned artworks are displayed alongside paintings and sculptures from Doncaster’s own collection to which they are connected.

Some of the connections are simple, for example the exhibition brings together a screen print entitled ‘Pipe and Jug’ by Patrick Caulfield from the Arts Council Collection with a group of prints by the same artist from Doncaster’s own collection.

Other connections are more subtle, for example Henry Moore’s sculpture ‘Working Model for Reclining Figure’ from the Arts Council Collection is displayed alongside a sculpture by Doncaster born artist Malcolm Woodward from Doncaster’s own collection. The connection between the two works is that Woodward acted as one of Henry Moore’s studio assistants.

Also included in the exhibition are works by John and Paul Nash, Joseph Herman, Ivon Hitchens and John Piper.

The Arts Council Collection loans are supported by the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.

Created by the Garfield Weston Foundation and Art Fund, the Weston Loan Programme is the first ever UK-wide funding scheme to enable smaller and local authority museums to borrow works of art and artefacts from national collections.

Please note you will not need to book for this event and it will be avaialble in the opening times of the museum.
