International Women's Day - 20 Women Who Changed the World

This International Women’s Day Cast are welcoming theatre goers and people from across Doncaster to take a moment to reflect on 20 Women Who Changed the World, a bold, colourful exhibition of work by the Nigerian-Born Doncaster artist Chinwe Russell. This historically inspired body of work, displayed front of house at Cast gives an insight into the lives of some incredible women from around the world.

The collection contains some well-known historical figures seen in a different light, such as Marie Curie, Elizabeth I and Florence Nightingale. Importantly it also contains much lesser-known women, whose work continues to shape our daily lives, such as Nwanyeruwa, Wangari Maathai, Stephanie Kwolek, Dr Marie Maynard Daly and Gerty Cori.

Partnering with Chinwe, an artist and woman based in Doncaster, to share her inspirational collection of women throughout history and from across the world, felt like the perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day.”

Chinwe Russell said:
“I’ve always been surrounded by very strong women, starting with my three grandmothers and sisters. They have always played a very important role to shape who I am as a woman. This collection represents the strength of women in all different sectors and each woman today can find something in this collection to identify with. I welcome all families to see and inspire their children with this collection.”
The exhibition can be experienced at Cast from now until 22 March, then it will go to the Torbay Museum in Devon from April and East Dunbarton in Scotland in the Autumn.
