Arts Small Grants: Two New Funds

Doncaster Council’s Culture Services has secured funding for two new arts grants.

We wish to commission local artists to commission new artistic works, as part of our aim to see artists in Doncaster thrive with sustainable economic activity.  We invite artists to respond to TWO opportunities, whilst considering our Culture Strategy’s vision for culture: “Doncaster is a place of places with a varied and vibrant culture. Our communities flourish by expressing their own creativity and connecting through shared cultural experiences of power and meaning”. It is important that you complete the initial checklist before starting to complete the Funding Application. By doing this you will discover whether you are eligible to apply for funding before you spend time completing the funding application. This project is [funded/part-funded] by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Grant 1:

The target audience for Supporting Doncaster’s Artists To Create New Art is Doncaster-based artists and creatives, who will be commissioned to produce art which will be displayed in Doncaster. The place of exhibition can vary, at any one of our number of venues, and / or including digital art. The art could be displayed at Danum Gallery Library and Museum, or other local venues to be determined.

The total budget for this commission is:

£20,000 for up to 30 artistic works (£600 – £700 per commission)

Grants of up to £700 can be applied to directly fund and support the commission of new artistic outputs, which can be in any recognisably identifiable artistic media.

The response should be produced and be displayable in a local exhibition. The artist retains the intellectual property of the product, and will be able to sell the art, if intending to do so, after a period of exhibits has taken place.

Your response should give others the opportunity to access your artwork. The focus on this fund is the creation of new works of art. The intent of the funding is to enable artists to create high quality artwork with access to funding to pay for material and associated costs.

Grant 2:

New Public Realm Art For Doncaster

The target audience for New Public Realm Art For Doncaster is any artist or arts organisation which can produce high quality art outdoors (e.g. murals), or on display in the public realm (e.g. empty unit window dressing).  There is an expectation that there will be 5 works produced, although these works could be produced by between 1 to 5 different artists / organisations.

The total budget for this commission is: £45,000.
