Dennis says "Growing up, I was extremely fortunate to have had the most inspiring and dedicated teacher throughout my youth jazz experience. The skills and compassion I acquired were a result of that education. Teaching feels very natural to me and I feel it's a duty to pass on my musical knowledge to the next generation."
August Charles is another immense talent to hypothetically graduate from the Higher Rhythm talent development programme that has spearheaded the careers of artists such as Skinny Pelembe, LIO and Explicare.
After also appearing on a new local radio show DN12 Live, many of our followers have been left wanting to know more about this new talent.
Based in Doncaster, this triple-threat singer, songwriter and producer takes inspiration from soul, R&B, pop and in the rich zamrock movement of the mid 70’s.
Zamrock is a musical genre that emerged in the 1970s in Zambia. It is described as a combination of traditional African music with psychedelic rock and funk. It has been described as the combined sound of Jimi Hendrix and James Brown.
August has a flawless falsetto, that has been compared to Sampha, Laura Mvula, King Krule and Frank Ocean. We’re not just saying that – you need to check his stuff out.
One of his latest new single ‘Take Me Away’ is a dreamy fusion of jazz and soul, complemented by a flutter of scintillating piano. In these difficult times, ‘Take Me Away’ allows listeners to escape from the trials and tribulations of everyday life during lockdown.
