Doncaster Making Tracks Railway Exhibition
Rare rail memorabilia of national importance which has remained hidden from public view for years is to go on show with a special month-long exhibition at the Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Doncaster, which is also sponsored by Unipart Rail
The exhibition, a collaboration between Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Business Doncaster, Doncaster Museums and Art Gallery, and Doncaster Council will feature historic exhibits including locomotive name plates and pictures of the Silver Link train signed by Sir Nigel Gresley - the railway engineer responsible for the world-famous Doncaster-built Mallard steam locomotive.
Running alongside the main exhibition visitors will be able to meet with several of the companies involved in the rail sector in Doncaster and learn about the work that they do and the opportunities for people in their sector.
The Doncaster Grammar School collection started in the 1930s when pupils and teachers at the school set up a railway society.
Over the years, members collected signs, nameplates, lamps, signal posts and thousands of other items of railwayana, building up an archive of items from the golden age of steam.
The exhibition will go on display at Frenchgate in two units located on the ground floor of the West Mall, from February 6 to until March 7 open each day 11am - 4pm.
Frenchgate Shopping Centre is located in the heart of Doncaster town centre with easy access from the North and South by car, as well as by bus and train via the centre’s transport interchange.
