Get creative this Easter with fun family events

People from across Doncaster are invited explore their creative side at two fun, family workshops next month (April 17 and 25).

Participants will be invited to create parade costumes for The Grand Parade in Rossington in May, which is being supported by Right Up Our Street and the National Lottery Community Fund.

The parade, which will take place on May 6, will be the third parade the team have organised. The theme for 2019 is Up, Up and Away.

Donna Lewis, chair of the Grand Parade Team said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event and are hoping that lots of families and people from across Doncaster will join us for our creative

workshops in April.

“The workshops are free to attend and are a great opportunity to get to know other people in the local community, be a part of something special and have fun!

“They are a chance to be creative and messy. There will be lots of sticking and cutting and making, what a great way to spend an afternoon of the Easter holidays.”

The Rossington Parade begun as a Right Up Our Street project, which aimed to get people in Doncaster choosing, making, seeing and sharing great art, music, theatre, film, dance, radio, poetry, and more.

The parade is now delivered by a group of community volunteers.

Sally Lockey, project director at Right Up Our Street, said: “We are thrilled to be able to support the Rossington community with this year’s parade.

“This is a great example of how Arts Council funding has ignited a spark in a community, brought people together and equipped people with the skills and confidence to deliver a creative project for their

own community.”

The Grand Parade Team are always looking for new members to join the group and volunteer with them to help to develop this parade for the community.
