Delicious Doncaster Food and Drink Festival’ whets the appetite of the town!
Food and drink lovers are preparing their taste buds for a treat thanks to next month’s ‘Delicious Doncaster Food and Drink Festival’.
Taking place in Doncaster town centre over three days from Friday 12th May to Sunday 14th May, the festival will feature entertainment, activities and over 50 providers of hot street food and artisan products. From Russian cuisine to flavoured gins and everything in between, Delicious Doncaster will have all tastes covered. Multi-Michelin star award winning TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will also be making an appearance on Sunday as one of the exciting star attractions of the festival.
Investment and Tourism Team Manager Chris Dungworth said, “We’re very excited to launch the Delicious Doncaster Food and Drink Festival and put our town well and truly on the food map. We believe the festival can become a key date not just in the calendar of Doncaster residents, but in the calendar of all foodies from outside the borough.
“There’s a fantastic variety of quality food and drink on offer across the three days catering for every taste, but it’s not just about the culinary delights, there’ll be street entertainment, activities and competitions. Cooking demonstrations throughout the weekend will also showcase recipes to entice the whole family and get everyone eating better and together.
“We also want to use the festival to remind everyone about the wide selection on offer every week of the year at our award winning market. Doncaster Market is a real asset for our town and we hope to encourage more people to regularly visit, shop locally and eat locally sourced produce.”
For those inspired to recreate their own delicious recipes at home, celebrity TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will be showcasing his skills in cookery demonstrations throughout the Sunday of the festival on the Market Square. The multi-Michelin star award winning chef will be using a selection of fantastic local produce available at Doncaster Market to show how to create some mouth-watering dishes. Jean-Christophe, who’ll soon be seen on ITV’s brand new cooking programme ‘Culinary Genius’ alongside Gordon Ramsay and Fern Britton, will also be on hand to answer questions from the audience.
On the Friday of the festival, alongside the unique variety of food and drink on offer, Doncaster College students will be fronting the demonstration kitchen on the Market Square. They’ll be focusing on family friendly recipes and healthy options, particularly based around a theme of ‘Fish Friday’. Children will also be able to get involved in some cake decorating and for any budding Mary Berry’s and Paul Hollywood’s there’ll be a competition to find Doncaster’s star baker.
On Saturday, as well as being able to enjoy the wide range of food and drink on offer, visitors can take in some live music and dance thanks to the Doncaster Folk Festival. That will include the ‘Day of Dance’ featuring a number of Morris Dancing groups across different town centre venues. ‘The Teenage Market’ will also give young local entrepreneurs and performers a stage to showcase their talent on the Market Square.
As well as the cooking demonstrations from the multi-award winning chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, the Sunday of the festival will become ‘Slow Down Sunday’. Along with the opportunity to sit back and relax with some good food and drink, there’ll be workshops, original entertainment and a look at subjects such as urban growing and foraging, offering a different dimension to the festival.
Delicious Doncaster Food and Drink Festival will run from 10am-6pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. For more details and information visit www.visitdoncaster.com/whats-on/delicious-doncaster-food-festival.
