6 of The Best - 7-8 October

We've got a little bit of everything in our latest edition of your what's-on guide for this weekend in Doncaster. Whether you're a sports fan, a theatre-goer, a history buff or you fancy some live music and comedy, we've got it all covered in this week's SIX of The Best.

 

1. Monster Comic Con

Monster Comic Con – The UK’s Brand New Popular & Alternative Culture Show

Meet special guests from your favourite films and T.V. shows, voice actors from cult games and comic book artists at Doncaster Racecourse this Saturday from 11am–6pm  and Sunday from 11am–5pm.

There will be a wide range of activities and events, for fans to enjoy throughout the weekend including:

Autographs and photo shoot opportunities with guest stars, merchandise on sale from film and TV exhibitors, Cosplay, FREE PLAY Gaming Lounge, movie car displays, prop and costume displays, competitions, tattoo area, talks and panels, authors, artists and much more.

2. DRFC vs. Southend United

Let's get behind the mighty Rovers this Saturday afternoon as they welcome Southend United to the Keepmoat Stadium for a 12th vs. 19th clash in the EFL League One.

3. James Paine celebration at The Mansion House

A Celebration of the Work of James Paine.

Celebrate Doncaster's revered architect James Paine at an open morning with guided tours of the Mansion House. A series of talks about his life and work will take place in the afternoon from 1:15pm.

Open morning and tours are drop-in sessions but prior booking is required for talks.

10:00am - 12:00pm: Open morning with guided tours of the Mansion House (Drop-in session).

1:15pm - 5:00pm: A series of talks about the life and work of James Paine (Free admission by ticket)

4. The Weir

In a small Irish town, the locals exchange stories round the crackling fire of Brendan’s pub to while away the hours one stormy night. As the beer and whisky flows, the arrival of a young stranger, haunted by a secret from her past, turns the tales of folklore into something more unsettling. One story, however, is more chilling and more real than any of them could have ever imagined...

Come along and discover the mystery at Cast, with tickets still available for Saturday, 7th October. With fantastic reviews already pouring in for this production, it's one not to be missed for any theatre fan.

5. Jimmy Tarbuck

Top television comedian Jimmy Tarbuck swaps The London Palladium for Doncaster! Tarby, as he is known to millions of TV viewers, is one of the country’s most evergreen performers and a master of light entertainment.

During the entertaining evening, Tarby will be using photos and video footage to take audiences on a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a wealth of hugely funny stories and anecdotes ranging from being at school and in the same class as John Lennon to playing golf with Bing Crosby.

6. Doncaster Brewery presents... Sem Seiffert

Sem lives close to Cologne. His music is a combination of folk and rock with a bit of blues, jazz and pop.

His debut-album "Tales to tell" was recorded in Wolverhampton be Producer Gavin Monaghan who has also worked with artists like Editors, Ryan Adams, Nizlopi and The Sherlocks.
