We're back! 

The first weekend in December is upon us and we're back with our favourite suggestions for ways to spend your weekend in Doncaster.

Whether it's local history, live music or sport, we've got ideas galore in our 5 of the Best guide:

1. Winter Afternoon Racing

Wrap up warm and head over to Doncaster Racecourse this weekend, Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of December for two afternoons of thrilling action over the jumps.

Gates open at 10am on Friday and Saturday for seven races, commencing just after midday on both days.

Start race: 12:05, last race: 15:30

Number of races: 7

Premier and Mallard Restaurant – Smart. No jeans, sportswear or trainers. Gentlemen must wear a jacket and tie.

County Enclosure & Private Hospitality – Smart. No jeans, sportswear or trainers. Gentlemen must have a collared shirt.


2. Let It Snow at Cusworth

Come along and join in with some Christmas family activities at Cusworth Hall.

Saturday 2 December 11.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Warm up by the fire and make festive crafts by the Christmas tree,  including a 3D snowman and Father Christmas, tree decorations, cards, models, masks, puzzles and more!

£1.50 per child, accompanying adults free.


3. That'll Be The Day

Seasons greetings from That'll Be The Day, as it returns with its brand new 2017 Christmas Show.

The UK’s No.1 Rock ‘N’ Roll variety show celebrates Yuletide with all your favourite Christmas classics from the 50s, 60s & 70s, plus more side-splitting comedy! Treat yourself to an early Christmas prezzie and bring in the festive season in style!

4. Advent Carol Service

To mark the first Sunday in advent, Doncaster Minster of St. George are holding Choral Evensong this Sunday afternoon, the 3rd of December.

From 4:30pm until 5:15pm the service will be sung with hymns using the language of the Book of Common Prayer (1662). Enjoying the traditional service in this wonderfully atmospheric and beautifully acoustic setting, will have you feeling aglow with festive spirit in no time. 

FREE admission.


5. Hooton Pagnell Pop-Up Christmas Shop

Head over to the picturesque Doncaster village for an interesting selection of stalls selling unique gifts as well as a pop up tea room serving morning coffee and cakes, soup, afternoon teas, mulled wine and mince pies.

Free Entrance, everybody welcome.
