5 of The Best - 13-14 January

There's talk of the white stuff hitting Doncaster next week, so it might be wise to make the most of this weekend and get out to enjoy the borough. Whatever the weather we've got ideas for all the family in this week's 5 Of The Best what's-on guide:


1. Doncaster Knights vs. Bristol Rugby

Head over to Castle Park this Saturday afternoon and give your support to the Knights, welcoming top-of-the-table visitors Bristol Rugby.

2. Rovers vs. Plymouth Argyle

If football is more your thing, you're spoiled for choice as Rovers are also at home this weekend, entertaining Plymouth Argyle at the Keepmoat on Saturday afternoon.

Eleventh plays twelfth in this mid-table clash - kick off at 3pm

Visit Doncaster are also launching our 2018 Visitor Guide at the game as well as Donny Dog presenting Pilgrim Pete of Plymouth Argyle with a Doncastrian Paddington Bear, to cement relations ahead of forthcoming Mayflower 400 anniversary in 2020. We're also very excited to be unveiling our iconic Donny Dog Blokhead to be located in the Tourist Information Centre, further strengthening our partnership with Club Doncaster

3. Glenn Miller Orchestra at The Dome

If you're 'In The Mood' to see the one of the most famous Big Bands in music - allow Ray McVay's Glenn Miller orhcestra to transport you back to the heady days and music of the 1940s - with the fabulous harmonies of the Moonlight Serenaders and the sublime vocals of Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter.

With lindy-hop dancers, vintage-inspired performers and swing band sensations, this is an evening of classic entertainment and feelgood nostalgia.

4. Ice Spectacular at The Dome

To celebrate the return of ITV's Dancing on Ice, Doncaster Dome are hosting an Ice Spectacular on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of January.

The weekend of spectacular events on ice will include stilt walkers, ice statues and lots of family fun activities at the Dome’s split level ice rink between 10am and 3:30pm each day.

What's more, everybody who visits on any of these two days will be entered into a draw to win a family ticket to the Dancing on Ice 2018 Tour.

So get your skates on!


5. Weekend Wild Time at Potteric Carr

Get those wellies on and make your way to Potteric Carr this Sunday morning from 10:30am to blow off the cobwebs. There's a series of outdoor wild team games on offer to brush away the winter blues. Suitable for ages 5+ (Younger members of the family can come along too)

Also on Sunday morning the reserve are running a Volunteer Open Day from 10:00am for anybody interested in volunteering for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in South Yorkshire. WHy not do something amazing, fun and worthwhile from inspiring visitors and communities to carrying out practical conservation work on their reserves, there is something for everyone. This is a drop-in event, so simply stop by anytime between 10am and 3pm.
