5 of The Best 1-2 December

With less than a month to go until Christmas Day it's sure to be all go for the next few weeks, finishing the shopping, getting those last few bits and pieces, trimming up, writing cards and trying to keep the little ones from going crazy with excitement! 

Doncaster is busy too - lots taking place on the run up to Christmas, for all the family. This weekend we've got the launch of the #YourDN1 Living Advent event, the first weekend of the Cast Panto and the start of Brodsworth Hall's Father Christmas weekends, to name but a few. 

It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas... 

1. Living Advent 2018

Various, Doncaster Town Centre

Countdown to Christmas was Visit Doncaster this month as we take you on a 24 day-long adventure across the town centre. 

Join us in person or on Facebook Live between 10:00am-10:30am on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December as we kick off Living Advent 2018 with a fantastic selection of businesses and venues in #YourDN1.

Saturday 1st December we will be live from The Shoe Room on Priory Walk with surprises to enjoy behind our first advent shop door. 

On Sunday 2nd we'll be heading over to Doncaster's only music shop, located on Priory Place: Fret don't Fret. Again, from around 10:30am in person or on Facebook Live, join us for a special offer and more.

We'll be taking you across town throughout the month with special offers, incentives, entertainment, treats and more, every Monday to Saturday. Also, look out for our weekly round-up videos every Sunday where we'll share our thoughts on the week and where we're off to next.

So join us in celebrating our town centre this December, support our businesses by shopping local and take advantage of some great offers.

2. Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood

Cast Theatre, Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale, Doncaster, DN1 3BU

Panto season is upon us - "Oh no it isn't!"..."Oh yes it is..."

This weekend sees the opening of the Cast 2018 pantomime production: Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood.

Join the most skilled archer in the land with the adventurous heroine Maid Marion as they rescue the babes and outwit the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham. Featuring glittering sets, stunning costumes and a full cast of all-singing-all-dancing Merry Men it's a show full of mischief and plenty of derring-do, make your Christmas magical this year with an action-packed and hilarious panto, sure to hit the bullseye!

All performances will be BSL interpreted by an integrated signer/performer. There is also a captioned performance, an audio description show for those with visual impairments, relaxed performances ideal for audiences members with ASD and a dementia-friendly showing.

Running right up to New Years Eve, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy this fantastic pantomime, a real festive family tradition in #YourDN1.

3. It's Christmastime!

Hall Cross Academy Lower School, St Michael's Road, Doncaster, DN4 5LU

On Saturday evening, avoid the X-Factor and enjoy a festive concert of choral singers and live music with 'It's Christmastime!'

The Doncaster Ladies Choir and the Doncaster Concert Band will be in action from 7:30pm, tickets available to purchase on the door, priced at £8.00 and include wine and a mince pie. Proceeds of the concert will be given to 'Headway' - the brain injury association. 

4. An Audience with Father Christmas

 Brodsworth Hall, Brodsworth, Doncaster, DN5 7XJ

To experience a beautifully nostalgic visit to Father Christmas, Brodsworth Hall's 'Audience with Father Christmas' is the perfect suggestion.

Gather round inside the Hall for Christmas tales by the traditionally decorated tree, told by Father Christmas himself, and take the chance to get a photo to treasure forever. There's a gift instore for every girl and boy too. 

Pre-booking essential, please note maximum of two adults per child in each session as the space is 'cosy'. 

Time slots to see Father Christmas are: 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday 1st, Sunday 2nd, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December.

5. Doncaster Design & Contemporary Art Fair

Magdalen Sports Bar, 20 Market Place, Doncaster, DN1 1ND

This Sunday, across several venues in Doncaster Markets, immerse yourself in art. The Magdalen, No.7 at the Rum Rooms, The Gin Rooms, The Queen Crafthouse & Kitchen and The Marketplace Alehouse & Deli host the Doncaster Design and Contemporary Art Fair from 11:00am.

Featuring over 50 artists and more than 500 original artworks across the spectrum of artist media; paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics, installations, illustration, mixed media, photography, print making and more.
Come and meet the region’s professional and emerging artists, where you can buy, browse, discuss art, eat, and drink.

Following on from the enormous popularity and success of the last fair in September, this promises to be an inspiring and enriching afternoon for everyone.
