Doncaster is the largest metropolitan borough in the country, yet remains essentially rural. Whether you’re seriously into bird watching or just fancy a breath of fresh air in beautiful scenery, there is something for everyone in Doncaster’s rural landscape.
We have a host of events to help you explore Doncaster’s countryside, wildlife and heritage.

Where do we meet?
- all activities begin and end at the same place. When you arrive look out for the leaders who will be waiting to greet you - whatever the weather, they will be there
What will I need to bring?
- wear comfortable clothes and footwear, suitable for the outdoors and the weather
- if the event lasts all day, don’t forget to bring a packed lunch
- if you plan to bring your dog with you, please check the activity information - where dogs are not welcome, this is stated - all dogs must be on leads

Walking to Health

Gentle strolling is a good start for people who are not used to exercise - it is one of the best ways to become more active. Walking for Health has been developed in partnership with Doncaster Primary Care Trust.
Appropriate clothing and footwear required. Dogs welcome.
Today’s lifestyles discourage many from being active. An inactive lifestyle is one of the main causes of heart and circulatory disease. Just 30 minutes of physical activity such as brisk walking, 5 times a week, is enough to physically reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Walking is almost perfect exercise requiring no equipment or expense, it is the best way for people from all walks of life to become more active. Any walking is better than none. Gentle strolling is a good start for people who are not used to exercise. Brisk walking is the goal, because the heart reaches its natural ‘training zone’ when it has to work a little harder than normal.
