Doncaster is enviably seen as a gateway to Yorkshire and the North East but it also shares boundaries with Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, counties with an abundance of interesting places to visit. Indeed the number of national tourism attractions such as Castle Howard and Harewood House within such close proximity, make Doncaster an ideal base from which to tour.

Sheffield is just 20 miles away, with its many museums and galleries, world-class sporting and entertainment venues and the Peak District National Park. The Millennium Galleries and Winter Gardens are especially worth visiting. Normanby Hall Country Park, near Scunthorpe, which also boasts a Farming Museum and golf course, is a thirty-minute drive away. Cannon Hall Museum, located on the outskirts of Barnsley, is an eighteenth century country house with an outstanding collection of Old Master paintings and is also home to the Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars. Close by is the breathtaking beauty of the Pennines and the market town of Pennistone. The cities of York, Selby, Leeds and Harrogate are easily reached from Doncaster as are some of the county’s beautiful coastal resorts.

17 miles from Doncaster is the village of Epworth, on the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire border. It is the birthplace of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism and his home is now a museum and place of pilgrimage for people from all over the world.
