The Friends of Sandall Park and Doncaster Council are delighted to announce that The Veolia Environmental Trust have awarded a grant of £14,137 to provide a children’s 'adventure trim trail' through the Landfill Communities Fund. The trail will form part of the existing play area in Sandall Park on Thorne Road, Wheatley, Doncaster and allow children to play on equipment designed to encourage balance, fitness and adventure. The Friends of Sandall park have provided additional funding to provide a key feature of the project, which is the inclusion of a children’s play train and carriage that reflects the heritage of the park - that is the children's train that was removed in the 70's. The Chairman of the Friends of Sandall Park Sandra Crabtree Said: "The Veolia Environmental Trust have given us the opportunity to show that Sandall Park is back in the business of providing a safe family friendly environment. After a period of neglect since the early 1990's the park is making huge strides forward in providing a great place for families and the people of Doncaster to visit" Councillor Cynthia Ransome, DMBC Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "This is excellent news and we are very grateful for the grant. We want people in Doncaster to love where they live and enjoy our parks and open spaces. I would like to thank the Friends of group for all the hard work they do." Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Margaret Cobbold adds, “Playgrounds provide children with a great foundation for development. This new playground will enable children to develop their physical and social skills, while keeping active and letting their imaginations run wild. I look forward to seeing the work get underway.”
